Khartoum voices – another year of war in Sudan

“I hope this year will be the year when the sound of military machines stops, when we no longer hear gunfire, and the death stops,” says one civilian who fled the capital, Khartoum, during the war and recently returned. 

To commemorate the new year and the civilians of Sudan – who have now experienced nearly 1,000 days of war – Ayin interviewed people who have both fled Khartoum and returned and those who have endured life in the capital city since the outbreak of conflict in mid-April, 2023.
