The world doesn’t know the story of Sudan because the warring parties have
- Banned independent reporting
- Persecuted journalists
- Shut down the internet across most of the country
- Flooded social media with disinformation and propaganda.
Sudanese journalists and filmmakers are playing a vital role to tell their story against overwhelming odds and daily risks to their own safety. They are committed to bringing the truth from communities affected by the war to their fellow Sudanese and the world.
The Ayin Network:
The Ayin network is an independent media organization started in 2013 to support a diverse network of journalists across Sudan (Ayin means “look” or in Arabic). Ayin provides training, resources and a platform for the next generation of Sudanese journalists and film makers. In just over a decade Ayin has been recognized as one of the most trusted news sources and is a proud founding member of the Sudan Media Forum.
Our Reporting:
Ayin’s video content and reporting are often the only dispatches from the frontline of the war in Sudan. Ayin produces documentaries like the film “Khartoum”, premiering at Sundance and filmed by members of the Ayin Network. Our investigative reporting and journalism can be seen in New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, NBC, BBC, PBS and Al Jazeera.
Our Ask:
Ayin believes a democratic Sudan is possible where speech is free, news and information is accessible, and storytelling brings people together. However, the independent media faces a dire crisis as the country will have been at total war since April 2023. We need your help to continue telling the story of Sudan in film and news reports. Together we can support the next generation of Sudanese storytellers.
