Sudanese refugees in Chad wait for days in food queues
3 June 2025
Some Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad are forced to stand in line for days under the scorching sun to collect food aid provided by international organisations. Sudanese refugees in several camps in eastern Chad, including Adré Camp, are complaining of severe food shortages, especially following the recent cut in international funding for humanitarian aid.
The United Nations reported that more than 55,000 Sudanese refugees had entered Chad since last April after the escalation of violence in North Darfur. The UN expressed concern over what it called the “deteriorating humanitarian situation in eastern Chad” due to the influx of refugees and returnees from Sudan and a severe shortage of funding. This number is in addition to the approximately one million people who have fled to eastern Chad since the outbreak of the Sudanese war in April 2023.
