The “Save El Geneina” initiative
23 June 2024
According to the volunteers at the “Save El Geneina” initiative, you do not have to walk far to find the refugees currently sheltering in Adré Refugee Camp, Chad, who are struggling with emotional trauma. Most of the refugees here fled El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, after the Rapid Support Forces and allied militias instigated terrible attacks against residents in April and May last year. With a recent directive by authorities to relocate the refugees from Adré to another location to allow Chadian residents access to farmland, volunteers at the “Save El Geneina” initiative fear levels of trauma will inevitably spike again. The “Save El Geneina” project is based within the camp and provides psychosocial support and income generating activities to support the conflict-displaced.
