Hawa’s Story
13 August 2024
“I try and stay positive for my children, so they are not affected mentally,” Hawa Adam told Ayin. “But the situation is very tough.” Hawa and her family fled their hometown of Tawila in North Darfur State in July after the Rapid Support Forces raided the town. At the time, the capital of North Darfur State, El Fasher, was one of the few places where a fragile peace agreement held sway. But this did not last long. As the bombing and shelling intensified in El-Fasher and relatives were killed, Hawa and her children had to flee again – this time back to Tawila.
Now Hawa is trying to pick up the pieces—literally—since her home was burned and ransacked in her absence. Despite the immense challenges, with no shelter from the rain and just their clothes on their back, Hawa and her children remain determined to make ends meet.
