Surviving the attacks on eastern Al-Jazeera State
5 November 2024
In October, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) raided villages in eastern Al-Jazeera State, including al-Ezaiba village. Over a hundred people have been killed in these attacks and thousands more displaced. The alleged reason? The RSF commander in the area, Abu Akla Kaikal, had switched sides and joined the RSF’s enemy, the national army. But many residents in eastern Al-Jazeera believe the real motive was simply to loot, kill, and rape. Ayin managed to speak to two survivors who fled their village, al-Ezaiba, and told us their harrowing accounts of the RSF attack on their village.
