No food in Adré – Refugees leave Chad’s largest refugee settlement in search of sustenance

As Sudanese refugees continue to flee the war into eastern Chad, many have ended up in Adré Refugee Camp, a sprawling ad hoc settlement. Quite possibly the largest single refugee settlement in Chad, the camp has run out of food, residents told Ayin. Now some camp residents are facing a difficult decision: do we remain in hopes of support or relocate out of desperation? Famine has been confirmed in at least five areas of Sudan, with projections that an additional five areas will also face famine conditions in the near future. This includes the Zamzam camp in North Darfur, where famine was officially declared in August 2024.
